Programme of "Forum Munich Aerospace" Online Edition released

Offene Professur im Munich Aerospace-Netzwerk

1 April 2021 – In summer semester 2021 the "Forum Munich Aerospace" lecture series will be available online for the first time. In five lectures, the speakers report on latest developments in the field of aerospace from different perspectives.

Munich Aerospace contributes during the summer semester with two lectures taking place in July. On 1 July, Professor Alexander Choukér starts with the topic “From bridges to benefits: COVID-19 research inspired by space”. On 15 July, we look forward to Professor Alexander Knopp's lecture on "Space Based Communication Networks Beyond 5G - Featuring the Bundeswehr’s First Scientific Small Satellite Mission SeRANIS".

From bridges to benefits: COVID-19 research inspired by space

Astronauts' bodies experience extreme stress in space, both during their missions and after returning to Earth. Significant problems can be bone loss, muscle wasting, heart problems, but also changes in cells or in the brain. With the medical examination of astronauts, helpful insights can be gained for patients, for example in intensive care units, and are an enrichment for clinical diagnostics, various therapies or even for combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

Professor Alexander Choukér is head of the research laboratory for stress and immunity in the department of Anaesthesiology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. In particular, he researches the effects on the body during long-term stays in space and how such findings can help patients on earth. His focus here is on studies of stress-related changes in the immune system.

Event 2:

Thursday, 15 July 2021 um 17.30 Uhr
Professor Knopp: Space Based Communication Networks Beyond 5G - Featuring the Bundeswehr’s First Scientific Small Satellite Mission SeRANIS.

Space Based Communication Networks Beyond 5G - Featuring the Bundeswehr’s First Scientific Small Satellite Mission SeRANIS

For the first time ever, the next generation of mobile communication networks (B5G/6G) will by design comprise aerial and space borne components in addition to terrestrial base stations and user terminals. As a result, self-organizing constellations of hundreds or thousands of LEO satellites will form a space information network, delivering seamless connectivity and processing power across the globe. Such networks pose opportunities for the digital society and the space industry but also challenges for a digital sovereignty and information security.

Professor Andreas Knopp is head of the chair of signal processing at the Bundeswehr University in Munich. His research focuses on the areas of signal processing, signal monitoring and network integration for modern communication satellites. In addition, Professor Knopp is chair holder and director of the Munich Center for Space Communications, one of the largest and most versatile

research institutions for testing satellite and space communication technologies.
