Speaker

About

Asteroids – threat or gold mine? – Asteroids are small bodies in the solar system, orbiting our Sun. They are leftovers from the formation of the solar system and can shed light on the formation of our planet and the life on it. They can impact our planet and damage our assets – a 20 m-sized asteroid that appeared over the city of Chelyabinsk in Siberia in 2013 caused injuries to more than 1300 people and Millions of Euros in property damage. On the other hand, asteroids might be sources of rare metals or other useful materials. In this presentation, the current state of asteroid research is discussed in relation to both the negative and the positive aspects.
