Forum Munich Aerospace – FCAS under Time Pressure

Speaker

Hendrik Sippl, Program Manager FCAS NGWS Remote Carrier, Airbus Defence and Space

About

The FCAS Program (Future Combat Air System), carried out by Germany, France and Spain and their industries, is supposed to replace today’s manned fighter aircrafts and deploy unmanned remote carriers and a new combat cloud as “central network” in around 2040. While the next phase of FCAS program is under preparation, current military crises and political disruptions urge stakeholders, both, on customer and industry side to accelerate the delivery of new capabilities and operational solutions to the armed forces by the end of this decade already, especially in the domain of unmanned and autonomous aerial systems.

The lecture gives an overview about some of the key challenges, which the military aviation is facing and how they have been embedded into the concept of FCAS today. It further elaborates on the domain of so-called Collaborative Combat Aircrafts, their role in future combat scenarios, and the related technological challenges to be mastered by the next generation of engineers.
