About

The Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) is a truly international endeavour that will see the United Kingdom (UK), Italy and Japan work together with a shared ambition to develop a next generation fighter aircraft. GCAP is a system — a Future Combat Air System—which means it comprises a number of different elements, of which the core platform, the aircraft, is one element. To deliver the future combat air solutions requires other assets and other nodes in the broader system network as well. The combat aircraft, called Tempest in the UK, will be one of the world’s most advanced, interoperable, adaptable and connected fighter jets in service. The programme is championing new approaches to the development and delivery of future combat air technologies, using digital engineering to design and innovate, embracing Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and ground-breaking wearable technologies that will ensure GCAP remains at the cutting edge of advancements in defence technology.
