Forum Munich Aerospace: LUNA and the Human Exploration Control Center

Speaker

Dr. Thomas Uhlig, Business Development German Space Operations Center (GSOC)

About

With the Human Exploration Control Center (HECC) in Oberpfaffenhofen and the LUNA Analog Facility in Cologne, Germany is home to two of the key facilities for future lunar missions. Both have emerged from a long-standing and highly successful collaboration between ESA and DLR.
The Human Exploration Control Center (HECC) is set to take on the operational responsibilities for spaceflight missions on behalf of Europe.
LUNA is Europe’s central facility to simulate, test and validate under lunar conditions, where almost all aspects of the lunar surface are replicated.
The two centres are integrated, enabling even large-scale mission scenarios to be rehearsed.
The presentation provides insights into both centres.
