About
European Sovereignty in Access to Space is in the actual geopolitical environment of utmost relevance. While Ariane 6 as heavy lift workhorse successfully ramps-up with its commercial flights towards its nominal cadence, Vega fulfilling with the lower / mid-class LEO payload capability customer demands, and European micro-launcher companies gearing up for orbital launches, two ESA programmes successfully pave the way with relevant milestone achievements towards reusability demonstration in Europe, Prometheus and Themis.
With Prometheus, a 100 tons class rocket engine using Lox / Methane as propellants has successfully been tested several times demonstrating also multiple re-ignition capability.
With Themis, the preparation with the first so-called “hop” test in Kiruna / Sweden is on the way, proceeding with the vehicle integration on the launch pad. The lecture will outline the current status and next steps.
